Sunset over Monte Cervino, Italy

It is the region of Dolomites, at the eastern end of Italy’s northern border, that is most famous for the phenomenon of the enrosadira, the ‘pinkening’ of the mountains as the sun rises and sets against them, but here we see a similar effect at the western end of the Alpine range. The rock is different here, and so the colours aren’t the same, but the effect – and the conditions have to be just right for it to really work – is just as magical.
