Forse l’evento più importante – e il più costoso – in un rapporto romantico è proprio il matrimonio.
Per creare la giornata perfetta tante cose devono andare al loro posto: il luogo, il tempo e la ristorazione, per citarne solo alcune.
Quindi non c’è da stupirsi che un numero sempre crescente di coppie sceglie l’Italia come meta ideale per convolare a nozze, con più di 11,000 cerimonie per stranieri nel 2022 – un aumento del 30 per cento rispetto alle cifre raggiunte prima della pandemia – portando l’Italia al primo posto in Europa.
Questo numero di matrimoni ha attirato circa due milioni di visitatori con un soggiorno medio di 3,3 giorni, generando entrate di ben 600 milioni di euro per il settore del turismo.
La proporzione maggiore di queste entrate proveniva dagli Stati Uniti, probabilmente incoraggiata dall’ondata recente di matrimoni in Italia di personaggi famosi come George Clooney e Justin Timberlake.
Le nozze tra americani hanno costituito il 29,2 per cento del totale, mentre le coppie del Regno Unito occupavano il secondo posto a poca distanza con il 25,7 per cento.
Quando si fa un confronto dettagliato, un matrimonio celebrato in Italia viene a costare meno di un matrimonio nel Regno Unito.
Tuttavia le coppie devono tener conto delle difficoltà logistiche nell’organizzazione delle nozze all’estero, e i costi maggiori per i viaggi, sia per la coppia stessa, sia per gli ospiti.
Le destinazioni preferite sono le ville con splendidi giardini e i luoghi agricoli o di campagna, soprattutto in Toscana.
I prezzi variano da una regione all’altra, per cui conviene fare delle ricerche prima di focalizzarsi sui siti da scegliere.
Si possono ridurre i costi ulteriormente se si decide di tenere la cerimonia di martedì o di venerdì perché sono giorni considerati indesiderati, grazie all’antica superstizione che sostiene che le nozze celebrate in uno di questi giorni potrebbero portare sfortuna ai nuovi sposi – Né di Venere né di Marte, non si sposa né si parte.
Questo proverbio ha origine nelle parole italiane per i giorni della settimana.
Il martedì si associa a Marte, il dio romano della guerra, che comporta una vita coniugale di litigi.
Il venerdì invece si collega a Venere, la dea della bellezza e della fertilità, ma considerata anche furba e ingannevole – qualità considerate piuttosto indesiderabili.
Nei prossimi anni l’Italia farà di tutto per confermarsi la destinazione preferita per i matrimoni, con un aumento notevole di coppie straniere che scelgono i suoi incantevoli paesaggi e il fascino romantico del bel paese per celebrare le loro nozze.
Dalle dolci colline della Toscana alle coste meravigliose della Sicilia, l’Italia offre scenari perfetti per ogni coppia che desideri creare dei ricordi indimenticabili.
ENGLISH | GETTING MARRIED IN ITALY
Perhaps the most important – and most expensive – event in any romantic relationship is of course the wedding.
To create the perfect day, so many things have to fall into place: the setting, the weather and the catering, to name but a few.
Therefore it’s no surprise that an ever increasing number of couples are looking to Italy as the ideal place to get married, with over 11,000 ceremonies for foreigners in 2022 – a 30 per cent increase on pre-pandemic numbers – making Italy the number one choice in Europe.
That number of weddings has attracted around two million visitors, staying an average of 3.3 days in the country, bringing in €600m of much-welcome revenue to the tourism industry.
The highest proportion came from the United States, probably encouraged by a spate of celebrity Italian weddings in recent years including George Clooney and Justin Timberlake.
Weddings between Americans accounted for 29.2 per cent of the overall total, with couples from the UK coming in a close second at 25.7 per cent.
When compared like-for-like, it is cheaper to host a wedding in Italy than in the UK.
However, couples must take into account the logistical difficulties of arranging the day abroad, plus the additional travel costs for themselves and their guests.
Villas with splendid gardens and countryside locations are among the most popular, with Tuscany a clear favourite.
Prices vary by region so it’s recommended to do some research before whittling down the search area.
Additional savings can be had should the chosen day be a Tuesday or Friday, which remain undesirable, thanks to an old superstition that getting married on these days may bring bad luck to newlyweds or to people setting out on a journey: “On Friday or Tuesday, don’t get married, don’t go away.”
The origins of this proverb stem from the Italian words for the weekdays.
Tuesday (Martedì) is associated with Mars, the Roman god of war, resulting in a married life of strife.
Friday (Venerdì) is associated with Venus, the goddess of fertility and beauty who was also considered cunning and deceitful – qualities that are deemed rather undesirable.
In the next few years Italy looks to firmly establish itself as the ultimate wedding destination, with a remarkable surge in foreign couples choosing its enchanting landscapes and romantic allure to say their “I do’s.”
