A small commune in Molise received more than 8,000 applications after announcing an offer of free holidays. The village of San Giovanni in Galdo began a campaign called ‘Give Yourself Molise’, offering 40 free week-long stays in homes in the area between July and September. The cultural association behind the project, Friends of the Morrutto, came up with the idea to help Italian and foreign visitors discover this beautiful region in this year of ‘zero tourism’. The initiative launched in June and the organisers were immediately swamped with interest from all over the world. There are hopes that the scheme may be adopted by other villages in 2021.
