The silhouetted figure on top gives a clue as to what this building was designed to be: a hunting lodge, a very grand hunting lodge. There has been a royal palace here since medieval times, but construction on the current palazzina was begun in 1729 according to plans drawn up by the architect Filippo Juvarra for Victor Amadeus II, King of Sardinia.‘Palazzina’ is an understatement. The building covers over 30,000 square metres and has 137 rooms.
